Imbibe lessons of Ramadan –David Mark, German govt

Senate President, Senator David Mark has urged Muslim faithful and Nigerians alike to imbibe the true lessons of Ramadan, saying that the lessons of denials and sacrifices must not be lost in the haze and euphoria of festivities.

Senator Mark who stated this in his goodwill message to Muslims on the celebration of the Eid-el Fitri stressed that the lessons of piety, forgiveness, true repentance, love and good neighbourliness learnt during the fasting period should be manifestly demonstrated now and in the future.

Mark therefore counselled that these good virtues most not end with the celebration but should become an integral part of our daily lives even as he lamented on the nation’s recent ugly experience with the Boko Haram crises, pointing out that the crises should also awaken Nigerians to the fragility of nation state.

According to Senator Mark; “the lesson the Boko Haram crisis teaches us is that we must be accommodating to one another, irrespective of religion, sex or tribe but above all, it is our collective responsibilities to jealously guard our unity and uphold the sanctity of our brotherhood as Nigerians.”
Also, the German government has said Muslims commitment to the lessons of Ramadan should be a shining example and hope it will lighten the way towards a sincere and heartfelt global partnership.
This was contained in a message of greetings from the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier issued through the German embassy in Abuja on the occasion of Bayram/Eid el-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan.

The release reads in part: “I wish all our Muslim fellow citizens in Germany, and indeed all our Muslim friends across the world, a happy and blessed Bayram/Eid ul-Fitr!
“On this religious festival my best wishes go out to all those who, on the basis of their beliefs, are committed to exchange, respect and better understanding between people.
“May your commitment be a shining example to us all, lightening the way towards a sincere and heartfelt partnership. It is the foundation for peace and prosperous coexistence, in Germany as in the rest of the world. With this in mind, I hope you, your family and friends have a happy holiday.
